Search for the Geekvape Zeus and the results throw up bare tanks, full kits, spare glass and boxes of coils, all side by side. Four very different products share one name, and only one of them makes a complete device. Before comparing anything, the first step is to read the listing properly and work out what is actually on offer.

What the Geekvape Zeus actually is

There is no single device sold as the Geekvape Zeus. The Zeus is a sub-ohm tank built around ready-made coils, with a 510 connection, and it only works once it is screwed onto a mod. To end up with a complete device, you pair it with a battery, either bought separately or supplied in a kit.

The name itself has moved on. Kumulus Vape says, in a reply published under its listing, that the product is now called Z and that the word Zeus no longer appears on it, while Smokein lists it as the “Z Sub Ohm (Zeus)”. A listing titled Z Sub Ohm and one titled Zeus can therefore describe the same tank.

The four listings hiding behind the name

Product pages do not look alike, but a few clues are enough to sort them. The title, the main photo and the box contents tell you almost everything.

The bare tank

The title mentions a tank or clearomiser, and the photo shows no mod. According to Kumulus Vape, the tank measures 26 mm across and 42.5 mm tall, fills from the top once the top cap is removed, and draws its air through an adjustable ring at the top. It takes an 810 drip tip.

The box holds the tank and its coils, but no battery. This is the case that calls for the most checks, covered further down.

The full kit

A kit pairs the tank with a mod, giving a ready-to-use device once the batteries are fitted. In the results we looked at, the one that keeps coming up is Geekvape’s Aegis Legend 2, covered below.

The spare glass

A glass on its own is easy to spot by its title, “Pyrex Zeus” at both Kumulus Vape and Smokein, and by its photo, a plain clear cylinder. Kumulus Vape lists its Pyrex Zeus glass as fitting both the Zeus and the Zeus X, which shows that one glass can serve several tanks in the family.

The coils

Boxes of Z series coils are sold separately. Kumulus Vape and Smokein agree on the quoted ranges, 60 to 70 W for the 0.4 ohm and 70 to 80 W for the 0.2 ohm. Smokein also lists a 0.15 ohm, rated for 80 to 90 W. None of these parts does anything without the tank.

Capacity, the line to read first

The listings we checked disagree on the tank’s capacity. Smokein quotes 5.5 ml, and the Kumulus Vape page gives 5, 4 and 3.5 ml depending on where you look, without either of them mentioning a 2 ml version.

In the UK, refillable tanks are limited to 2 ml, and nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20 mg/ml in bottles of no more than 10 ml. A listing that does not state a 2 ml version is worth a question to the seller before buying, rather than an assumption.

The Aegis Legend 2 kit, the ready-to-vape option

Geekvape’s Aegis Legend 2 kit pairs the L200 mod with the Z Sub Ohm. According to the Smokein listing, the mod runs on two 18650 batteries sold separately, sets the output from 1 to 200 W and shows the coil resistance on an OLED screen.

The tank comes with a 0.2 ohm Z coil and a 0.25 ohm dual-coil Z. Compatibility between mod and tank is settled in advance by the maker, which makes the kit the simplest way in for anyone new to this kind of equipment. A setup like this, with a dual-battery mod and a wide tank, falls into what we call a big vape mod, with the bulk that comes with it.

One point the listing does not settle. The batteries are not included, and choosing them is up to the buyer, based on the mod’s manual and the battery maker’s own data sheet.

Bare tank, what the mod needs to offer

Buying the tank without a mod assumes you already own one, or will choose one that carries it properly. Three checks are enough, all readable on the mod’s spec sheet.

The diameter it accepts

At 26 mm across according to Kumulus Vape, the tank needs a mod rated for at least 26 mm. Smokein gives 25 x 42.5 mm as its dimensions without saying which figure is the diameter, so the wider value is the safer one to work from.

Output and minimum resistance

The mod has to reach the range of the coils you plan to use, 80 W to run the 0.2 ohm at the top of its range, 90 W for the 0.15 ohm. It also has to accept a resistance as low as the coil fitted, or it will refuse to fire.

The current asked of the battery

On the battery side, power turns into current. To deliver 90 W, a single cell sitting at around 3.6 V has to supply about 25 A, before the mod’s own conversion losses. A dual-battery mod shares that load between two cells. Either way, the battery is chosen from the continuous discharge rating published by its maker.

Geekvape takes the same approach with its pods, using cartridge families that do not mix, as our guide to the Wenax range shows.

FAQ

Beyond reading the listings, a few questions come up often from people putting together their first Zeus setup.

Can the Zeus be filled without unscrewing it from the mod?

Yes. According to Kumulus Vape, it fills from the top once the top cap is removed, so the tank can stay on the mod while you fill it.

Can you fit your own coils on the Zeus?

No. Kumulus Vape notes that the tank only takes ready-made coils. For building your own, the family includes a rebuildable atomiser, the Zeus X RTA, which takes a single or dual build.

Does a new Z coil need priming?

Yes, like any cotton coil. A few minutes of waiting after the first fill lets the wick soak, then you start at the bottom of the range printed on the coil before going up a few watts.

Does a thin e-liquid suit the Zeus?

This tank is aimed at direct-to-lung vaping on low-resistance coils. A liquid with more vegetable glycerine generally holds better in the wick, while a thin liquid passes through it faster and can encourage leaks and gurgling.

How can you tell a Z coil is worn out?

Flavour that fades, or a burnt note that persists after fresh priming, are the clearest signs. Coil life depends on the liquid and the wattage used.

Buying a Geekvape Zeus by reading the listing

Behind the name you will find a bare tank, a kit, a glass and coils, and only the kit lets you vape with nothing more to add than batteries. Before choosing a Geekvape Zeus, check the box contents, the mention of a 2 ml version and, for a bare tank, the diameter, output and batteries of the mod that will carry it. Carrying a larger setup also raises the question of protection, covered in our guide to vape cases.
